HIYA.
I’m Jane Claire Bradley, an award-winning writer, performer, therapist and educator based in Stockport, Northern England. I write fiction, essays and performance poetry, and I started this Substack in 2023, just before the publication of my debut novel, Dear Neighbour. I spent a year here, sharing regular essays, reflections and other writing about my all-time favourite obsessions: creativity, class, queerness, community, mutual care, sex, subcultures, survivorship and identity.
I’m no longer sharing my work on Substack, but you can find my migrated archives along with a shit-ton of other treasures over at my website. If you like you what you see, you can sign up over there for free updates via my newsletter. If you want, you can also sign up for a free fourteen-day series of daily love letters and writing prompts made to reconnect you to your creativity.
Or, if you want some hand-picked recommendations of where to start with my work, here’s a few of my current faves:
💖 The internet isn’t supposed to be like this: a banging dystopian mixtape of the best writing about social media and the internet
⭐ Two weeks alone in Valencia: reflections and a short film about my first solo adventure
💖 Five lessons from five years of Rebel Therapy: half a decade as a therapist, here’s what I’ve learned
⭐ Sometimes I just can’t stop thinking about Matthew Lillard: out with self-censoring, in with obsession
💖 Come with us now on a journey through time and space: on still being obsessed with the Mighty Boosh
⭐ I’m having a personality crisis: a never-ending love affair with nineties classic Velvet Goldmine
💖 This isn’t working: out with success, in with queer failure
⭐ Darkness and light: a journey from winter to summer solstice
