Amazing read as always, Jane.

I think I need to let go of my perfectionism in order to write more. I write my weekly Substack and I know they’re not always perfect but I put them out anyway and I’m proud of that! But there’s more to write. There are those stories that I’m a little scared to share because I’m worried about what other people will think and them not being good enough. I need to get sharing. Thank you, Jane. 🖤

And that bookshop sounds amazing!

This is very cute and really inspiring! I love the idea of a bookshop only being discovered when you are lost! Also yeah, just get started! X

What a fab read. Now get stuck in to a zero draft. Write scenes in no particular order and don’t think about connecting them. Things will begin to coalesce, and if they don’t, so what? You’ll have the beginnings of something...😀

Ah, bollox. Typed a long reply and lost it when hunting how to attach a photo into it. Anyway - 1/ thanks and this reminds me to return to Belfast for more fab times. Bloody loved my visit last year 2/ how about finding an excuse to visit Brighton Fringe festival and connect? (Make sure SEAS socially engaged art salon is on your list) /3 / if you do visit Sussex, don't forget a day trip to Worthing, up the road and full of artsy queers.

Ah, thank you for being here Caroline - I'm sorry your comment got sucked into the ether but thanks for persevering! I would LOVE to do a Brighton Fringe visit, just signed up to the mailing list and will do my best to make it happen. SEAS is definitely on the list if I do! Thank you so much for the recommendation.

I hope your lecture went brilliantly yesterday and you're happily tucked up recovering in this wintery Sunday.

Also - I always say I'm a recovering perfectionist. It'll never not be part of who I am, but I manage it better than I used to.

Thank you! I love the idea of embracing imperfection in the process of recovering from perfectionism, there's something pleasingly meta about that. And I'm so pleased you find it more manageable now, is there anything specific you did that made a difference in getting to that point?

Thanks for reading and commenting! 💖

An official ADHD diagnosis definitely helped. And realising my version of perfect is often way beyond, in self publishing for example what I've put out isn't perfect (to me) but no one else would see any of the "flaws" I can see. And learning that has also helped!
